laparoscopy gynecologic  surgery  is an alternative to open surgery .

 

what happens during the procedure?

  After the anaesthesia(SA/GA), a small incision is made in a below your navel or  another area of the abdomen ,laparoscope 

  is inserted through the small incision during the procedure. Abdomen is filled with gas ,this allows the pelvic organs to be

  seen  more clearly through the cameras attached to the laparoscopic instruments  on a screen and other instrument called

  as uterine manipulator may be used to the vagina .


 

 Diagnostic Laparoscopy for--

  • unexplained pelvic pain,

  • unexplained infertility,

  • history of pelvic infection conditions like endometriosis,

  • uterine fibroid, ovarian cyst,

  • ectopic pregnancy, pelvic abscess,

  • pelvic adhesions infertility ,PID

 

Varieties of surgeries which can be performed through  laparoscopy:--

  • removal of ovaries,

  • removal of ovarian cyst

  • removal of fibroid

  • endometrial tissue ablation

  • reversal of contraceptive surgery

  • Vault  suspensions to treat prolapsed uterus

 

Advantages of laparoscopic surgery

  • Small incision  which reduces the discomfort post surgery.

  • Early rehabilitation or mobilization like patient can be send home same day or the next morning

  • Patient can resume normal activities early

  • Chances of formation of internal scar tissue after surgery are less

  • The magnified view of the internal organs of interest as shown on a large TV screen reduces the incidence of  errors.
